Omega-3s are genuinely important โ especially for people with hypothyroidism, PCOS, hormonal inflammation, and brain health. Flaxseed oil is one of the most accessible plant-based omega-3 sources, and INLIFE Flaxseed Oil Capsules have great reviews and a clean ingredient list. I bought them with good intentions.
And then my body ran very hot and I got an allergy.
Same pattern as the Vit B situation โ internal heat, body becoming overly warm, a general sense that something was off. I stopped, the symptoms resolved. I do not know if it was the flaxseed oil itself, the softgel capsule material, or something in the manufacturing. What I do know is that my body said no.
Is flaxseed oil actually good for you?
Yes, for most people. Flaxseed oil is rich in ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), a plant-based omega-3. The body converts ALA to EPA and DHA โ the forms your brain, heart, and hormones actually use โ though the conversion rate is low (around 5-10%). This is why fish oil or algae oil (for vegans) is technically more efficient for getting EPA and DHA directly.
That said, flaxseed oil is still genuinely useful for reducing inflammation, supporting hormone balance, and improving dry skin from the inside. It is a legitimate supplement. It just did not work for me.
Who might have trouble with flaxseed oil
- People with hormone-sensitive conditions โ flaxseed is a phytoestrogen. For some people with PCOS or oestrogen-dominant presentations, this can be a trigger. For others it is helpful. It depends on your specific hormonal picture.
- People with blood thinning conditions or on blood thinners โ omega-3s at higher doses can thin blood. If you are already on anticoagulants, check with your doctor first.
- People with digestive sensitivity โ the oil can be hard to digest for some, especially on an empty stomach.
- People with nut or seed allergies โ flaxseed is a seed; cross-reactivity is possible though uncommon.
What to try instead
- Fish oil (Himalayan Organics, WOW, Carbamide Forte) โ better EPA/DHA conversion, well-tolerated by most
- Algae oil โ vegan-friendly, directly provides EPA and DHA, skips the conversion problem entirely
- Ground flaxseeds in food โ adding a tablespoon of ground flax to dahi, smoothies, or rotis gives you the fibre benefits alongside the omega-3s, and the whole food form is often gentler than the concentrated oil capsule
If you want to try INLIFE Flaxseed Oil specifically โ and again, the reaction was mine, not a universal verdict โ start with one capsule taken with a meal and see how you feel for a week before increasing. Never try a new supplement on an empty stomach, especially oil-based ones.

Feel better, without becoming a project.
Medical disclaimer: I am not a doctor. This post shares my personal reaction to a supplement. If you experience an allergic reaction to any supplement, stop taking it and consult a doctor. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting omega-3 supplements if you have a hormone-sensitive condition, blood clotting disorder, or are taking prescription medications.
