Okay we need to talk about something that nobody wants to talk about, which is exactly why we have to talk about it: sweat, smell, and skin under the bust, in the groin area, and in every other sweaty crevice Indian summers generously provide us with.
If you are a person who sweats a lot โ if showering does not make you smell fresh for more than 20 minutes, if your under-bust area is irritated by end of day, if your period days involve a low-grade sense of being swampy and no amount of shower gel is fixing it โ please read on. I have something for you. And it is not deodorant. It is not perfume. It is Canesten Dusting Antifungal Powder.
What it is
Canesten is a medicated antifungal powder. It contains clotrimazole, which kills the fungi and yeasts that cause smell, itching, and irritation in warm sweaty skin folds. It is not a fancy talc. It is not a fragrance powder. It is a proper over-the-counter medication that has been used in India for decades for exactly this purpose.
The reason you smell bad even after showering is not that you are dirty. It is that bacteria and fungi have colonised your warm damp skin folds, and soap alone does not fully kill them. A medicated antifungal powder does.
Where this is genuinely a game-changer
- Under the bust. For larger-busted girlies, this area is warm, moist, and prone to fungal infections that show up as redness, itching, and a specific “I cannot shower this out” smell. Canesten after showering, every day, changes this.
- Groin and inner thighs during periods. Pad-chafing plus blood plus sweat is an ecosystem. This powder keeps it under control.
- Between the toes. Athlete’s foot is real and this treats and prevents it.
- Armpits on particularly hot days. Not as a replacement for deodorant, but as an anti-microbial base layer before you put deodorant on.
- Any skin fold where two surfaces rub. You know your body.
Why this matters specifically in India
Indian summers are not a gentle warm. They are oppressive, humid, 40+ degree, can-feel-your-own-sweat-pooling-on-your-collarbone warm. And most of us are not just sitting in air conditioning โ we are commuting, working in spaces without full AC, dealing with power cuts, running errands, living. Your skin is going to sweat. Accepting that is the first step to managing it.
What you cannot do is let that sweat sit. On period days especially, the combination of heat, sweat, and the cycle itself makes skin folds extra vulnerable. A single dusting of medicated powder in the morning โ under the bust, on the groin, wherever you need it โ and you are covered for most of the day.
How to use it
- Shower and dry your skin completely. Especially the folds. Wet folds defeat the entire point.
- Dust a thin layer of Canesten onto the relevant areas
- Wear breathable cotton
- Reapply once in the evening on particularly sweaty days, after patting the area dry
That is it. No elaborate routine.
A few real talk notes
- This is a medicated product. It is not meant for daily lifelong use on every inch of your body. Use it where you actually have fungal or sweat issues. If you are using it as a general body powder daily across all skin, talk to a dermat.
- If you have an active fungal infection with redness, peeling, or severe itching, please see a doctor โ you may need an oral antifungal in addition to the powder.
- Do not use it on broken skin, open wounds, or freshly shaved areas (it will sting).
- Keep it out of your eyes and mouth. Basic stuff.
Who this is for
- Anyone who sweats more than average, especially in humid climates
- Larger-busted women dealing with under-bust irritation
- PCOS/hormonal folks who notice their sweat has more odor than it used to
- People with chronic yeast overgrowth, especially on skin folds
- Everyone on hot period days
- People with diabetes who are prone to fungal skin infections (please also loop in your doctor)
Where to get it
Here is the Canesten Dusting Antifungal Powder on Amazon India. I usually buy the pack of 3 because one bottle disappears fast during summer months.
This is the kind of product that does not get talked about because it involves body parts we have been taught to be embarrassed about. But I am going to talk about it anyway, because honestly, feeling fresh and comfortable in your own body on a 42-degree day is a form of self-care. No shame in using the tools.
Feel better, without becoming a project.
Note: If you have a persistent fungal infection, unexplained skin irritation, diabetes, or are pregnant, please consult a doctor before using medicated powders. This post shares my personal experience, not medical advice.
